This project is fun, because you can do it so many ways, especially if you buy a couple kits, then you can really have fun! I am normally a green and purple girl for Halloween but this year I really am digging Orange.
Trick or treat? Or Happy Halloween?
This project is fun, because you can do it so many ways, especially if you buy a couple kits, then you can really have fun! I am normally a green and purple girl for Halloween but this year I really am digging Orange.
See how fun! So many different and great ways to finish this kit which comes comes with 2 pieces of 2×4 wood blocks measuring 7″ and 9″. The sanding is already done for you. Yep, I should post a pic of me covered in sawdust after an afternoon of sanding and cutting….Wouldn’t that be a great pic?
The vinyl part is fun, There are a couple choices! So you can do the cool looking Trick or Treat, or Happy Halloween, I did a couple, some I used 2 different colors! You can find the kit here: http://shop.fabdecor.com/Trick-Or-Treat-Craft-Kit-CK-TRT.htm (this links you directly to the trick or treat kit).
oh and the best part! It is only $5.50 for the wood and vinyl! Buy a couple kits and have a fun craft night with your friends.
But for know I will show you how I did the Happy Halloween using the lime green and spooky purple.
I did them 2 at a time! Especially since I used 2 different colors. Since I was already going to have some fun colors, I decided just painting my blocks black would be great, I start by painting the fronts of my block and one top Like this:
This way the paint can dry a bit and I will get less paint all over myself. (I didn’t say I wouldn’t get any, just reduce the amount)…Once the paint was dry I cut each of the letters from the lime green and purple vinyl words out like so:
It took a little bit of time, but I wanted to make sure that I didn’t end up with the same color right by each other!
I laid them out this way, I wanted to be sure I could fit them all on and that I made sure it would look right when they were all on!
I started doing it, then on the first one I noticed that I ended with more room at the end of my block than I really wanted, So on the second set I put my H and Y on…. I think it worked out ok.
I didn’t like how this “a” was sitting, so if you get a letter in a place you really don’t want, just take an exacto knife, of course mine is pink!, and slowly peel it up and reapply it to the proper place…
Now once all the letters are placed, then if it time to add some fabulousness, or not… That is what is great, you do whatever it is that makes it YOURS! woot! I hot glued the 2 blocks together, I just put some hot glue on the bottom of the smaller black and stuck it on to the top of the big block! I wanted to show you the top of the trick or treat! this is what I did, I took some very think orange ribbon, and got tulle, I stapled the ends on the bottom of each block, then at the top of the block I tied a ribbon, like you are tieing your shoes, then I cut the loops in half… then I just took the orange ribbon and made another bow and cut the ends of the loops again! I
Once I had my ribbon done, Now the fun part GLITTER, I love glitter spray, glitter bits, I just LOVE GLITTER! I put my blocks on the top of one of my bins, can you see that I have used it A LOT!
Just follow the directions on the spray can, it is generally best to keep the can at least 8 to 10 inches from your project and to light coats until you get your desired look, It doesn’t take long to dry. And this is what my project ended up looking like:
Didn’t it turn out super cute? I can’t wait to see what you do with yours! And as always you can the product finished, just the wood, just the vinyl, or the wood and vinyl together over at www.fabdecor.com
